Day 1-3: Maun, Botswana / Central Kalahari Game Reserve

Arrive in Maun and meet our Expedition Leader, one of Southern Africas preeminent photo safari guides. Transfer by light aircraft to Kalahari Plains Camp, set in a remote area of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, which offers some of Africas best wildlife viewing this time of year. The reserve is the largest conservation area in Botswana and one of the largest protected wildlife areas in the world.

On our daily game drives we explore the stunning Central Kalahari Game Reserve at its most productive, when sporadic summer rains beckon animals to the valley in large numbers. Photograph the Kalahari's famous black-maned lions lolling in the shade, brown hyenas loping along ancient dunes, and cheetah stalking wildebeest as the herds converge in grassy riverbeds by the thousands to feed. A wilderness walk with local Bushmen, whose ancestors have lived in harmony with the Kalahari for over 25,000 years, is a rare opportunity to experience a remarkable and vanishing culture. Tribesmen lead us through the bush, sharing wisdom of the flora and fauna that have sustained them for millennia.

Days 4 & 5: Okavango Delta

Today we transfer by light aircraft to Little Vumbura Camp. Our journey reveals Botswanas incredible contrasts, as we depart the Central Kalahari for the verdant waterways of the Okavango Delta. Situated on an island in the heart of delta, Little Vumbura lies within a rich mosaic of habitats including clear water channels, expansive floodplains and lagoons teeming with life, and the outermost savannas edging the delta.

Little Vumburas exceptional location allows for a variety of water- and land-based activities. Glide through tranquil waters in a mokoro (a traditional dugout canoe piloted by a local delta-born guide) amid purple and white water lilies and wind-rustled reeds as African fish eagles survey the scene from above. Have your camera ready to capture shots of prolific birdlife or various antelope nervously scanning the shoreline for lion, leopard, and other predators. Other activities at camp include motorized boat trips and wildlife drives in open safari vehicles. Or simply relax on your veranda and enjoy the views of the seasonal floodplain where plentiful wildlife, including buffalo and elephant, come to quench their thirst. And be sure to keep an eye out for lion, leopard and hyena that have been to known to wander through at close range as they travel through the wetlands!

Days 6-9: Chitabe Concession

After breakfast, transfer by light aircraft to Chitabe Main Camp. The Chitabe Concession contains the widest range of habitats in the Okavango Delta, from savanna to tree-filled islands and floodplains. We explore this diverse landscape on twice-daily game drives and optional safari walks, where we may see elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, cheetah, zebra, tsessebe, giraffe, kudu, impala and possibly even a pack of rare and elusive wild dogs on the hunt. Afternoon drives usually return after dark in the hopes of spotting the shyer nocturnal animals of the Okavango Delta, such as genet, civet, serval, porcupine, and on rare occasion, aardwolf. Our Expedition Leaders deep understanding of the delta and its wildlife, developed through years of guiding and photographing here, enables us to capture stunning images of this remarkable environment and its inhabitants. In the evening, share stories and photos around a flickering campfire before retiring beneath the stars on one of Chitabes elevated platforms, listening to soothing night sounds of the African bush.
