Rome is the capital of Italy, of the Province of Rome and of the region of Lazio. Rome is also a commune, which means a basic administrative division in Italy, called Roma Capitale. At the same time, it’s the largest and most populated city in the country, being a metropolitan area.

Wanting the best experience in Rome, I booked a room at the Portrait Roma Hotel. A bit expensive , but after you live in that hotel for 2 days, you’re going to forget about the money. The hotel is relatively small, with only 14 rooms, but what truly makes it special, it’s not the view or how comfortable the beds are, but how welcoming and warm the people are. The staff really cares about its guests. As a tourist and a hotel guest, this things have a huge impact on your trip.

Rome has a lot of historic and beautiful places. The column of Marcus Aurelius is definitely one of them. Placed in Piazza Colonna, the column represents the victory of the emperor Marcus Aurelius. Another column is Trajan’s Column, a famous statue just as Trajan. The column was built to celebrate Trajan’s victory in the Dacian Wars.

A place definitely work checking out is the Colosseum also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre, is probably the most impressive ruin of Roman Empire. The building attracts a diversity of visitors every year, being the most visited place in Rome. Palatine Hill is the place where buildings for the former great emperors of Rome used to be built. These two locations are full of history and they have that old vibe that really gets you.

Basilica Maria Maggiore is one of the 4 papal basilicas , a one of a king monument dating back since 5th century. Its design is simple, yet spectacular. The basilica is spacious, full of herringbones that really bring out the best .

The Roman National Museum has several branches , all spread around Rome. The museum holds sculptures from the Renaissance period and an Egyptian collection.

I have enjoyed the best Carbonara at a local diner, called Matricianella. As a size, it is medium, but welcoming and not too noisy. The staff is friendly, the serving was professional and the food is really great.

Rome is an amazing city that combines history, culture, economy in a really nice and fun way. The people are very helpful and lovely.
