January Again---Solo time travel---Hampi

Experience

Its been an year since I posted my first blog and here I am again with my new wandering tale. This time I chose to go solo and wander around all by myself...believe me solo travelling is much more fun than anyone who has never done it can imagine.

Its 2 am of January 2nd and I still have no plan where to head...so after a little bit of research(thanks to google and travelogues), I decided to do some time travel way back in 13th century to Hampi. Bus tickets booked and rest is on the fly...just packed my small backpack till 3 am and slept dreaming about how its gonna turn out. :)

And the time went by... I left the home, reached station and boarded the bus.Just after 10 mins of boarding the bus, heard someone trying to ask me something, curious me looked upside and saw a guy asking me something. Later got to know he is also a solo traveler and photographer who came all the way from Italy and wanted some help with some guesthouse booking. Well sometimes even the lonely-planet don't come to rescue.. :) I helped him dialing the numbers and we had a good talk about travelling, trekking and all. I talked about India, he talked about Italy and France and some other parts of Europe and time just passed like seconds.

After about an hour I realized that I am not gonna spent the night alone....I had the best company all night...the bright super shiny and beautiful moon(almost full moon :) ) . Oh yes after the Italian guy went to his berth, I opened the window curtain to see the lovely moon ..all by my side giving me company. I clicked some pictures too but moving bus gave me hard time...but I kept watching it and remembering something till I fell asleep(don't know when) ........and after 3-4 hours woke up suddenly when heard lot of movement...Yes the first stop has come and people were stepping down the bus.

After about an hour, the Hospet town came where I have to get down. I took my bag, put my feet into the floaters and all ready to get down when the driver came up to me and said ma'am , 20 more mins, its not Hampi(in kannada) and I was trying to explain to him that I have ticket till hospet only but he was super concerned about me and didn't let me step down. :) I too decided at the very last moment to get down at Hampi itself..and will see what to do . So another 20 mins, and I was in Hampi .....

Stepped out, said thanks to driver, went straight to a guest house, had quick bath and all set to roam around. Had Idli and chai , much needed chai..and that's it...started roaming to near by temples.

Captured the beautiful sunrise, the ruins of temples, just walked and walked and after spending about an hour came back to the station and took an auto to roam around the other temples. What a peaceful place it was...it was too early ...not a single person was there in any of the temples at 7 am in the morning...i was all me and it was just too beautiful feeling to be explained in words....Krishna temple, the diamond market ruins, narshimha, huge shivling , and a lot more temples..and yes the king's place ruins...the most historical part of my trip, don't know why but it gave me goose bump to see the huge palace into ruins....just amazing....roamed around , sat there and thought how lively it woulud have been some 5-6 centuries ago...and now all ruins....

Anyway time moves on and so am I , headed towards the famous pushkarni(basically the step well).I think expect me nobody was roaming alone except few foreigners and of course local people were giving me a look sometime, though it was not in bad way but just a strange look...and then I met a lady who was trying to talk to me but I couldn't as of language barrier, still we exchanged smiles and I moved on. Suddenly another lady in her 60s probably her grand daughter, stopped me and asked me to click her picture, I understood the gesture and opened my camera, she again stopped me and said wait.. and just wrapped her saree pallu perfectly and gave the beautiful , lovely smile. Cant forget that smile, she was so happy to be clicked..I have shown her the pics and she was laughing , patted my back and I left after saying bye...

And after sometime I realized how stupid I am and what a huge mistake I made...  :( :( I realized that I could have taken her address in kannada and later get it translated with any of my friend here in Bangalore..Damm my stupid brain... Just imagining how happy she would have been if I would have sent a framed picture of her and her granddaughter. I can't forgive myself for this stupidity.

Well I kept on moving and clicked a lot of pictures..was tired and hungry. Came back to station again and ate some chips and nariyal pani and then went to riverside.  Very less people, few of them enjoying the coracle ride, which I already took to go to the hill top temple. I sat there for sometime and then went to small left alone temples on the side of river...before I move further I looked at the time and it was already 4:30...well I have to head back and go to Matanga hill to get lost in the famous sunset...Wasn't much sure about it but the trekking up to top of the hill..that's what calling me...

So I moved back and passed near the Hampi police station and how beautiful it was...two huge elephant front were standing on either of the gate...wow..is it a police station??? oh yes it is.. written on the top. I moved further and got to the point of monolith Nandi statue and some 10 steps right of it saw a board showing way to Matanga Hill....so here I am. Started climbing on the steps and about in 20 -25 mins, reached on the top...whoa full of monkeys ...everywhere...

There were some 10-12 people overall...which was a relief to me..it was peaceful..everybody was just lost in the beauty of the ruins of the city which was clearly visible from that place...I just sat and watched the mesmerizing nature's painting, yellow, orange , scarlet red, and little blackish ..oh yes the Sunset...well I clearly underestimated the beauty of it, It was an amazing site...really amazing...seeing the whole rocks and the city in different colors of sky ...wow, cant really describe much in words. It was amazingly beautiful and peaceful. Most amazing part was, in front , it was sun getting set and on the back moon was rising as super shining....it was really a challenge for me to decide what to watch and what not to..i was constantly moving my head here and there to get a glimpse of both....later i watched the sunset and once its gone, I turned back to get lost in the beauty of moon. Loved it there...yes I captured a lot of shots from my cam but what I captured from my eyes will always remain in my memory................

Time has come to bid good bye to Hampi and came back to town in less than 10 mins I guess. While moving towards the bus station, I kept watching the moon, seems like getting obsessed with it.. :)

Bus was already standing there and I boarded it, again I got a company of an old man travelling alone from USA. He started the conversation and I replied  only to know later hat he came to India 10 years ago and also visited my hometown(Lucknow)...well I felt little happy, don't know why but may be to know that people from other countries know about it and yes he liked it there... :) Its just a 20 min ride from Hampi to Hospet...so we said good bye to each other and I wished him good luck for his journey.

I stepped out and went straight to the restaurant just in front of the bus station and asked the guy in counter whats in the menu....LOL....neither he understood what I said nor did I. After a while I figured it out that I have to sit and someone will come and take the order, and someone came :) I asked masala dosa?? he nodded his head in yes, again I asked tea?? he nodded again in yes and yippie I got my dinner..... i was about to sleep like jab we met scene..but the guy came with dosa and chai....well the world's most delicious dosa that was.... cuz  I was super hungry and super tired at the same time...I ate like a beast and some people were definitely watching me doing that.. :) NO grudges really...coz I was just too hungry....aha what a feeling that was like in heaven.. :)

So allz done and I went to the hospet bus station, waited in the waiting room which was only for ladies.. :) :) (oh yes gents have to wait outside, no waiting room for them...lol...a slight discrimination though.. :) ). And before I even recall all my days activity it was 9 pm , and I took my back pack and came out , the bus was already at platform(the same bus and same driver who left me to hospet in the morning) . He didn't even checked my id and gave me smile. Before I broad the bus, I saw that old man again, we again said good bye to each other and he asked me to wait , and pulled a card out of his wallet and gave it to me and said that he does pottery and request me to go through his collection and let him know if I liked it. :) well I took it and said thanks and the final good bye is done.

And I boarded the bus and in 15 mins it started moving and I again removed the curtain of the window, watched the moon again and silently said thanks and goodbye to the history...Hampi...
Moon was still giving me company though it was on another side this time but I couldn't gave it my company as I was too tired and slept within minutes of lying down.....................................................

It was a wonderful time travel all by myself at the very 2nd day of a brand new year....loved every micro second of it. Next day was in Bangalore and going through the snaps I took.....

I still feel sorry for that lady....I wish I didn't make that mistake.....and I wish I meet her again may be in my next trip to Hampi... That's what I wish for. :)
