Temples of Karnataka - South Kanara Temple Circuit

India is teeming with places of worship. There are temples at every street corner in this vast and diverse nation.

As a traveller, one is forced to select just a few of these destinations, owing of the constraints of time.

Today we look at some of the temples in the state of Karnataka in south India. These temples together form the highly popular temple darshan tours, commonly known as the "South Kanara Temple Circuit".


Horanadu Devi Annapoorneshwari Temple

Temple Deity: Devi Annapoorneshwari

Location: Horanadu at 100 kilometres southwest of Chikmagalur, surrounded by dense forests and valleys.

Brief History: Horanadu Annapoorneshwari Temple is located in the picturesque surroundings of the Western Ghats of Karnataka. Horanadu is a place of enchanting natural landscape, ancient temple of the goddess Annapoorneshwari here has been restored and renamed the Adi - Shaktyatmaka Shree Annapoorneshwari. The name "Annapoorneshwari" means "Feeding one and all." The uniqueness of this temple is everybody who visit this temple are fed (with breakfast, lunch and dinner), and place to sleep in the temple premises.

Temple Timings: 6:30 AM to 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9.30 PM

Accommodation: Boarding and lodging is provided by Temple trust. Temple guest houses are available to stay. If the rooms are not available, visitors can keep their bags and luggage in a cloak room and sleep at the temple premises.
